Wits Law, Located in Johannesburg, South Africa, the School of Law is a premier institution for legal studies on the African continent.
Students can expect to be stimulated and challenged by a rigorous academic programme, delivered by some of South Africa’s most prominent legal academics. We aim to deliver innovative and transformative legal research and thinking, which is complemented by the work of the Law School’s associated centres and clinics.
About Us
Situated in Johannesburg in the commercial heart of South Africa and the continent, the Oliver Schreiner School of Law is one of Africa’s top law schools, and its graduates are among the leading lights in the legal fraternity.
Established in 1922, the Oliver Schreiner School of Law has a long-established reputation as a premier centre for legal studies. Students refine their abilities to analyse and solve problems, argue from a position of weakness or strength, and work effectively under pressure. In addition to a sound theoretical education, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world legal experience through exposure to the final-year Practical Legal Studies component of the law degree, and have access to a wide range of electronic databases, IT services, as well as a three-storey library and research space located centrally in the Law School Building. We pride ourselves on teaching students the values of democracy and justice.
Academic programmes
The School of Law provides a range of courses for study, which provide students with a substantive, engaging, and holistic view of the law in South Africa.
