“Mens sana in corpore sano”
A healthy spirit in a healthy body
The centre is centrally located in Jooste Street (Building E16), across the road from the staff clubhouse, PUK FM and the “Wapad”-offices.
The HCC is open from Mondays to Fridays between 08:30 – 16:00
A comprehencive service is offered to all Puk-students and staff members, inluding contract workers, but services to visitors are limited to emergencies.
Psychological services are rendered to the entire PUK-comminity, focusing mainly on prevention, early intervention and brief therapy. After initial containment clients are referred within the multi-disciplinary team at the Health Care Center as well as to other services on campus (Institute for Psychotherapy and Counseling (IPC) and Student Counseling Services (SCS) who then provide medium and long-term care to the client.
Awareness about issues such as mood disorders, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse and coping strategies is raised by compaigns on campus and in the broader Potchefstroom community. Collaboration with student bodies such as AKSA and SJGD provide essential community outreach opportunities.
This ‘new’ 24 hour crisis service has been aptly names “InGryp: InBel – InStap – InSig”. This service is located at the PUK Health Care Center and is managed by the Psychological Health Coordinator. Services are manned by students and interns from Psychology, Social Work, SCS and IPC, works closely with the volunteers at Puk Emergency Services and relies on logistical assistance from Protection Services. Therefore, offering an opportunity for true campus co-operation and collaboration.
Within this service, opportunities exist for studying the psychological aspects addressed within the Healthy Campus Model, as this model will eventually form the framework for all health and wellness services rendered.
