All UCT postgraduates must maintain continuous registration until graduation. That means you must re-register each year until you graduate.
Re-registration requires satisfactory academic/research progress in the preceding year. You will be guided by your faculty and departments on processes associated with this, and it is generally associated with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between you and your supervisor, or a Progress and Planned Activity (PPA) report.
Returning students: if you are re-registering for the dissertation component in a second or subsequent year, you do not complete the MOU. Instead, you must complete the online Progress and Planned Activity (PPA) form
Once your online PPA form has been approved, you will be required to complete your online registration
Confirmation of re-registration
Your PeopleSoft student account will show confirmation of your re-registration. It also shows the programme and full list of courses you’ve registered for.
PeopleSoft also gives you information on where your PPA stands in the approval process.
Contact your postgraduate faculty manager if you have any questions or if your PPA is not moving forward in the approval process.
Most postgraduates are required to re-register in February; however, this may be earlier for research master’s and PhD students. If you do not register on time, you will receive a late registration penalty of up to R2 000.
