BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (COURSE-BASED)

MTech: (Magister Technologiae)

This Masters Programme is primarily designed to develop participants who wish to take greater control over and make a direct contribution to, change in their organisations via the development and implementation of information systems. Offered in association with Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design, in Germany, in addition to the CPUT MBIS qualification participants have the opportunity to also attain the Master of Business Systems as a dual qualification on completion of the Coursework and dissertation. Managers will also wish to improve their knowledge of management and organisations, allowing them to better understand the context of information systems. Information systems professionals who wish to improve the success rate of the information systems may also wish to ‘mainstream’ their career path by upgrading their management skills and knowledge.
Career Opportunities
Those who master both business and technology skills have the knowledge and ability to advance to strategic management positions, in business, industry or government. Your ability to integrate information and manage available data could contribute positively to organizational business process design and shape the organizations business information systems, strategy, productivity and operations. .

The course produces experts in integrated technical knowledge and skills, as well as advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, in specialised fields of construction, financial control, and policy formulation. The research focus of the department is on community-based research.Research-based Degree
Students conduct supervised research in a specialised area of construction management or quantity surveying and complete a dissertation.
Purpose and Rationale of the qualification
This qualification is intended to enable graduates to apply integrated technical knowledge/skills and advanced analysis and problem solving to a particular specialisation in construction management, property and other related fields, through involvement in an applied research project
Career Opportunities
Employment opportunities are many and varied. The main areas of employment are with building contractors and professional quantity surveyors. Opportunities also exist for self-employment, or employment in property development, with mining houses, financial and insurance institutions, with state and semi-state departments and in marketing with retailers and manufacturers in the construction industry.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

MTech: (Magister Technologiae)

The aim of this programme is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct independent research in information technology and information systems (IT/IS).Students may choose one of two options to complete the MTech Information Technology.
Option 1: Information Technology 
Students who have a research interest in any IT field may apply for admission to the research-based degree.
Option 2: e-Business Specialisation 
The e-Business specialisation is aimed at students with a background and/or interest in the application of IT/IS in the e-Business environment.
Students participate in a structured study programme. The programme consists of a series of compulsory components, in preparation for the research dissertation.
The objective of the programme is:

  • To expose the students to current e-Business topics, trends, and issues; and
  • To prepare the students to undertake a research project that culminates in a dissertation.
Career Opportunities
Graduates find employment at senior level in companies where they make contributions in research and development, operational or strategic aspects of IT/IS. They are also employed in research and teaching position in Higher Education institutions.
