Application methods
UJ has TWO different methods of applying. You have the option to choose only ONE of the following:

Assisting information
- Applicants must have a valid email address in order to apply online. All Communication with regard to your application will be sent via email/sms. Should you not have a valid email address you can create an email account using Gmail,Yahoo Mail or any other email provider you may prefer.

International Students Admission Requirements
Admission for international applicants is subject to meeting the compliance requirements as stipulated by the Immigration Act No 13 of 2002, the regulations made thereunder and the University’s policy.
UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS
APPLICATION AND CLOSING DATE
Applications open on 1 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and closes on 28 September 2018 at 12:00 noon. You may apply online at www.uj.ac.za and follow a link to study @UJ to either to apply online or you may download the application form, which should either be submitted to the Student Enrolment Centre or mailed to the University. Online applicants are exempted from paying an application fee, whereas hardcopy applicants are expected to pay a non-refundable application fee of R200.
Please Note: All applicants are advised to please not send cash through the mail or leave documents and cash with any unauthorised persons.
ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
- Submit a completed application form with supporting documents
- Final School results
- Valid Passport or Identity Document or Birth Certificate
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
- Provide proof of a non – refundable Application Fee R200.00
- Provide proof of the English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programmes) Alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), Mr Malibongwe Masango will be the contact person for UJELP. - In case were both first and second choices were unsuccessful, International Admissions office will offer an international applicant an alternative choice option when meeting the requirements
- Submit completed application form on campus residence when required
Applicants who are attending or have attended a University within or outside the Republic of South Africa, must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from modules or courses at University.
Degree seeking students
In order to study for a South African degree applicants are required to have achieved a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement. All International applicants with high school qualifications achieved outside of the Republic of South Africa require a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa for admission into undergraduate studies. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board on the address provided below;
- Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website www.he-enrol.ac.za)
- Correctly certified copies of the applicants educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
- A correctly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
- Exemption fee as determined by the Matriculation Board ( see website www.he-enrol.ac.za)
- Submit proof of payment for the Exemption fee of R500 payable to the banking details below

Applicants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville will have to apply for Matriculation Exemption directly with Matriculation Board. Please submit all correctly certified copies by mail when applying by hardcopy application or e-mail when have applied online. The University faculties have different APS (Admission Points System) for admission. It is important that when applying to the University applicants include copy of school leaving results and/or academic record if they have studied at the university.
