Damelin Project Management

Damelin Project Management, the module aims to suit a broad range of candidates who are planning projects – for example, university students planning a research project, individuals planning construction projects of various sizes, managers of content development projects relating to training, or individuals planning an event such as a corporate conference or wedding.

The module focuses on the use of project management software to prepare project plans and monitor projects and includes planning and managing time, costs, tasks, and resources. It is predominantly skills based.

How to get in?

  • Learners are required to have knowledge, comprehension and application of Computer Skills at Grade 11 or equivalent.

Time you will spend on the course

The programme duration is 16 hours and the tuition is face-to-face. Each Damelin campus has a different tuition schedule. Programmes are offered during the week, in the evenings, or on Saturdays.

Course content and modules

  • Understand the key concepts relating to managing projects
  • Use a project management application to create a new project and maintain an existing project
  • Create and schedule tasks and add project constraints and deadlines
  • Assign costs and create and assign resources to tasks
  • View the critical path, monitor progress and reschedule work
  • Prepare and print outputs, including charts and reports

The strength in your qualification

Upon successful completion of the programme, Damelin will apply on the learner’s behalf for the ICDL Project Planning Certificate from ICDL South Africa. The ICDL Certificate is an internationally recognised qualification.

 

Skills Programme in Supervise a Project Team

Part Time | This is part of an accredited programme with the SERVICES SETA, namely: FET Certificate in Project Management SAQA ID 50080, Level 4, 143 credits | This Skills Programme is occupationally based and when successfully completed, will constitute credits towards the abovementioned qualification registered on the NQF.

Why this course is perfect for you?
This Skills Programme is part of a Services SETA accredited full qualification, FET Certificate in Project Management SAQA ID 50080 at NQF Level 4, and is designed for learners who want to work in or with project management teams or use a project approach to their business. The projects may be technical, business, government or community development projects and will cut across a range of economic sectors. This qualification is also of value to learners running their own business, as project management is an integral component of any business system.
The programme will provide learners with knowledge and skills to use and apply the key project management principles, tools and techniques to be able to fulfil the following with confidence:

  • be an effective project team member
  • provide administrative support to a project manager and team members
  • provide assistance to a project manager of medium to large projects
  • apply the skills in the running of own business more effectively

Learners who complete the programme could pursue a career as a:

  • Leader of a Small Project/Sub-project

How to get in?

If done on a full-time basis:

  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of the English language at NQF 3/Grade 11 or equivalent
  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of Mathematical Literacy at NQF 3/Grade 11 or equivalent
  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of a South African 2nd language at NQF 2/Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3/Grade 11 or equivalent
  • A basic understanding of the workplace, project processes and operations and competence in National Certificate at Level 3 in Business Administration or Project Support Services or equivalent is preferable
  • Admission may be subject to an interview with an academic staff member

If done on a part-time basis:

  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of Numeracy and Literacy (1st and 2nd language) at Grade 12 or equivalent
  • CAT has been approved, thus exempting the learner from doing the fundamentals
  • Knowledge, comprehension and application of Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3/Grade 11 or equivalent
  • A basic understanding of the workplace, project processes and operations and competence in National Certificate at Level 3 in Business Administration or Project Support Services or equivalent is preferable

All learners must have completed the following successfully before enrolling for this Skills Programme:

  •  Skills Programme in Introduction to Project Management
  • Skills Programme in Project Management Scheduling
  • Skills Programme in Project Management Documentation & Meetings
  • Skills Programme in Project Management Tools, Techniques & Costing using MS Project
  • Skills Programme in Project Management Quality Assurance

Time you will spend on the course

The programme duration is 84 hours and the tuition is face-to-face based on the NQF notional hours. This excludes time to complete assignments, research and self study. Each Damelin campus has a different tuition schedule. Programmes are offered during the week, in the evenings, or on Saturdays.

Workplace Learning
This programme includes a compulsory Workplace Learning component. Workplace learning provides important opportunities for professional and personal growth. It addresses specific competencies identified for the acquisition of the qualification, which relates to the development of skills that will make the learner employable and will assist in developing his/her personal skills.

Upon successful completion of the programme, and if the learner is found to be “Competent” in the PoE, the learner will receive a Damelin Results Letter outlining the unit standards covered. Damelin will apply to SERVICES SETA on the learner’s behalf for the Skills Programme in Supervise a Project Team: SAQA ID 50080 (Credits 22) to be awarded.

 

Skills Programme in Project Management Scheduling
