CUT Sport, Sporting highlights from the leagues that CUT participated in and/or the institutions current stance. CUT has, in recent years, participated and will participate (2015) in the following leagues/sporting events:

Soccer

Vodacom LeagueCUT men team plays in the Vodacom League (since 2013/14 season). Currently, the team is in the 7th position out of 18 teams.
University Sport SA (USSA)TournamentBoth the men and Women teams played at the University Sport SA (USSA) tournament in December 2014.

The teams qualified and are the regional institution champs.

Rugby

FNB Varsity CupFree State Super League

USSA Tournament
CUT Ixias will take part in the FNB Varsity Cup, Free State Super league, USSA tournament (July) and in the 7-a-side USSA tournament in George.
FNB Varsity ShieldFNB CUT Ixias is the current reigning 2014 Varsity Shield champions.The team also won in 2011, and 2013 before being promoted to the FNB Varsity Cup tournament following their win in 2014.
FNB Varsity Cup Young GunsCUTs u/21 team will take part in the FNB Varsity Cup Young Guns (u20) competition.
Free State RugbyCUT club teams play in the minor leagues of Free State Rugby.

Cricket

Free State Super LeagueCUT has 2 teams in the Free State Super league.
Free State Cricket Minor League(s)3 more teams play in the Free State Cricket`s minor leagues.
Free State Cricket Women LeagueCUTs Women team plays in the Free State Cricket Women League on Sundays.
USSA TournamentCUT cricket take part at the USSA Cricket Tournament (December).

 CUT cricket pays it forward

CUT’s 4th cricket team has a development programme that exposes u/18 school learners to the next level of cricket. The learners included in the team are Louis Botha Technical High School pupils.

Learners in need from the schools, Dr Viljoen Combined, Wilgehof Primary, and Roseview Primary (u/13 and u/15) are coached by CUT 1 st team on Tuesdays and Thursdays as part of CUT and Free State Cricket`s development programme.

Free State Volleyball Local LeagueMen and women teams playin the Free State Volleyball Local League and both teams compete in the USSA Tournament yearly.
USSA Tournament

Hockey

Free State Hockey Super LeagueMen and women teams compete in the Free State Super League.
Free State Hockey Minor League3 further teams compete in the Free State minor leagues.

 CUT hockey pays it forward

The women’s hockey team takes part in the development programme. CUT’s women in the 3rd league also consists of Fichardtpark High school learners, coached by CUT students.

Netball

Free State Netball LeagueCUT teams compete in the Free State Netball League.

Golf

USSA TournamentStudents have access to two local golf clubs; the Bloemfontein and Schoeman Park Golf Clubs.The selected team competes in the USSA tournament (July).

 CUT tennis pays it forward

A development coaching programme for students in need takes place every Wednesday at CUT’s tennis courts. The session is coached by a professional and starts at 18:00.

 Free State AthleticsMen and women take part in Free State Athletics meetings.
 USSA TournamentThe selected team competes in the USSA tournament (December).

SPORT ACHIEVEMENTS

There was numerous sporting achievements in the last few years.

There was numerous sporting achievements in the last few years.

  • The CUT Ixias (rugby) being the Free State Super League winners in 2009 and represented the Free State at the National Club Champions in Stellenbosch in 2009.
  • The CUT Cricket team was the Free State Super League winners in 2009 and in 2011. The team represented the Free State Province at the National Club Championship in Pretoria on both occasions.
  • The CUT soccer team won the Free State League in: 2008, 2009 and 2010 and were promoted to the Castle League for the 2011/12 season.
  • The soccer team won the Castle League and did not get comfortable in the league, but was promoted to the Vodacom League for the 2013/14 season.
  • The team finished 4th (a total of 18 teams competed) in their first attempt in the Vodacom League, a great achievement!
  • The current season 2014/15 is halfway and the CUT team is in the seventh position (18 teams).
