The course prepares students for professional careers in Information Technology and specifically in the field of IT Service Management.
Career Information
There is an ongoing need for a wide range of highly skilled information technology per¬sonnel in SA. As the field is subject to rapid technological change, it requires professionals who are well trained in IT Service Management. A career path in this field ranges from an IT Service Desk Trainee to IT Service Manager.

Conditions of registration
• The Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology is a formal, NQF Level 5, CPUT qualification.
• In 2016, this programme will be offered in collaboration with College of Cape Town, False Bay College and Northlink College.
• As a student registered for the Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology, you will be a valid CPUT student and will be registered as such.
• You will have the same institutional accesses enjoyed by all other CPUT students, including NSFAS, library, student counselling, etc.
• 60 students will be placed at each of the campuses of the participating colleges. This will be based on your proximity to the campuses and how you prefer to travel.
Selection
• A student cannot be guaranteed acceptance if he/she qualifies with the minimum score of 30, as successful candidates will be chosen on a ranking system from the pool of applicants.
Credits to the Diploma
• 50% of subject credits of the Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology can be carried over to the first year of the Diploma in ICT in the following academic year.
Conditions to continue to the Diploma
• Students must obtain a 65% aggregate in the Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology in order to apply for the Diploma in ICT in the following academic year.
• The top 20 academically performing students at each of the colleges in the Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology), will automatically get accepted to the Diploma in ICT in the following academic year.

Specific admission requirements for the Higher Certificate in Information & Communication Technology are as follows:
Applicants with a high school Umalusi Matric:
• Home Language 50%,
• First Additional Language 40%,
• Mathematics 40% or
• Mathematical Literacy 60%.
• In the instance of a high school Umalusi Matric qualification, these afore-mentioned subjects, plus three additional subjects (excluding Life Orientation) should amount to an Academic Point Score of 30.0
• In all instances one language must be English
Applicants with a TVET Ncv
• English Language 50%,
• Mathematics 40% or
• Mathematical Literacy 60%.
• In the instance of a TVET Ncv qualification, these afore-mentioned subjects, plus four additional subjects (excluding Life Orientation) should amount to an Academic Point Score of 30.0
• In all instances one language must be English
