Services Offered

The Department functions under the management of a director, 4 deputy directors and 13 heads of division.
Through the following divisions the Finance Department provides the full range of financial services to its clients, namely:
Asset Management 
Maintenance of an asset register, asset movement control and the alienation of redundant items.
Budget Planning 
Plans the budgeting process, provides management information, provides administrative and accounting services to the University’s companies and trusts and engage in special projects.
Budgetary Control 
Compiling operational and capital budgets of UP, administration of purchase orders and concomitant budgetary control.
Creditors’ Administration
Administration of invoices issued by suppliers and the payment of creditors.
Debtors’ Administration, Ledger Administration and Reconciliations 
Issuing of invoices for services rendered and collection of debt for external funds.
Debt Collection (Legal processes) 
Collection of outstanding tuition fees by employing litigation processes. Financial administration pertaining to the residences of UP.
External Funds
Management and the compilation of financial statements and reports in respect of research grants, contract and other external funds.
Financial System Administration
Financial system management and the maintenance of a general ledger in respect of a full set of accounts.
Insurance Management 
Insurance of the fixed and movable assets of UP and concomitant risks.
Investment Administration 
Management of the investment portfolio of UP, the administration of the operating funds of the Institution and liaison with financial institutions.
Loan Administration (Student loans) 
The administration of UP funded student loans.
Procurement 
Coordinating the procurement of goods and services for all academic, administrative, support and research departments of the University. Securing competitive quotes and tenders to obtain maximum value for University spend.
Salary Administration (Payroll administration)
Payroll administration, including tax matters (PAYE, IRP 5 and allied tax documentation, etc).
Staff budgets
Compilation and administration of the staff budgets of the UP for budgeting purposes.
Student Accounts 
Tuition fee administration, including the determination of a fee structure.
 

Application process for financial aid 2019

  • UP bursaries and loans:

Applications must be submitted through the UP Student Portal or www.up.ac.za/fees-and-funding.
Applications are open from 1 August 2018 to 30 November 2018.
No late applications will be accepted.
Click the “MyTuks login” (UP Portal) at the top navigation bar , find the “Student Centre” portlet and select the “Apply for study finance” link.

Guideline to complete online financial aid application
Prospective students must first apply for admission to the University. An application for UP study financing may be submitted only after a student number (EMPLID) has been allocated.
