Wits b.Ed Honours

Wits b.Ed Honours, The Wits BEd Hons programme has been developed to enable educators to improve their academic competence, and related professional competence, in the current, ongoing climate of educational reform.

We offer BEd Hons students a unique opportunity of engaging actively and thoughtfully with relevant issues in education. This style of engagement helps students to develop a reflective, exploratory and critical approach to learning, rather than a static acceptance of ideas and practices. We also offer a certain amount of individual mentoring by experienced tutors for all courses, in an effort to help students develop more fully. However, please note that some modules offer more support than others.

Our BEd Hons programme is delivered in two ways. You can choose to do it full-time or, if you are working, you can do it part-time.

BEd Hons in the General Field

Full-timePart-time
On a full-time basis, the degree is completed in one year. Full-time students attend lectures at Wits on a daily basis and complete five modules in one year.On a part-time basis, the degree is completed in two years. Part-time students attend 2-hour lectures 3 afternoons a week, two-and-a-half modules in the first year of study and two-and-a-half modules in the second year.

Please note that the School of Education no longer offers the BEd Hons programme on a block release basis. This means that all students must attend scheduled lectures and seminars on campus each week throughout the academic year.

Anyone who applies to the School of Education for a B.Ed Honours before the end of August will be favourably considered for an upfront fee payment if the applicant is accepted into the programme, on condition that the applicant also applies for:
