UP Humanities
UP Humanities, The Faculty of Humanities, one of the oldest and most respected Humanities faculties in South Africa. Established almost 100 years ago, the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Pretoria has a long tradition of and extensive experience in providing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a wide range of disciplines in the languages, arts, and the humanities and social sciences.
Vision and mission
Humanities’ vision
-
be recognised nationally and internationally for its excellent contribution in education, research and community work in the humanities, social sciences and arts;

be the faculty of choice for students and staff who have an interest in the humanities, social sciences and arts and the contribution these make to society;

equip our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their professional careers and in other spheres of life in which they are expected to make a contribution;

offer students a holistic humanities education

establish a diverse staff corps that is acknowledged for service and academic excellence

provide support systems and procedures for staff that are not only transparent, user-friendly, efficient and effective but also motivational and inspirational;

Humanities’ mission

the education and training of highly competent, enquiring and critically minded students in the Humanities by ensuring that the teaching programmes are internationally competitive and locally relevant;

the conducting of high quality research, ensuring that the Faculty remains internationally ompetitive and locally relevant;

the production of excellent teaching and research results in the Humanities, by employing the best qualified academics and support staff and ensuring that they are developed to their fullest potential;

the application of management principles, guidelines, processes and practices to maintain and improve excellent academic performance in teaching, research and administration;
