University Of The Witwatersrand Medical Elective, Students, mainly from Europe, United Kingdom, North America, Australia and Africa , apply to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg to complete elective clerkships at the academic teaching hospitals affiliated to the Medical School.
Eligibility
Students applying for elective clerkships must have completed their basic science training and at least one full year of clinical training in a hospital.
In the field of Paediatrics students should preferably have prior clinical experience and be in the final year of study.
Students undertaking Trauma, should be in the penultimate or final year of medical studies.
All applicants must have a good command of the English language as all teaching and instruction is conducted in English.
Clerkship Programmes
The clerkship programmes vary considerably. Every effort is made to try to meet the student’s particular preference.
The duration of an elective clerkship can range from a minimum period of four weeks to a maximum of eight weeks.
