University Of The Witwatersrand Dentistry, Dentistry is a discipline that is concerned with the science and art of preventing oral diseases. This is done through promoting oral health and improving oral health quality of life at a population level. Our activities involve assessing oral health problems of various communities, planning and implementing appropriate interventions to address emerging problems. This is reflected in our teaching, research and the services that we offer through our Community Oral Health Outreach Programme (COHOP).
The Department is integrated with the Division of Oral Hygiene as they have a common mission of improving oral health experiences of the local population. All the oral and dental practitioners in the Department contribute to didactic teaching and clinical supervision of both oral hygiene and dental students.
