Welcome to the Department of Construction Economics

The Department of Construction Economics offers undergraduate and post graduate degrees in:

Quantity Surveying
Real Estate
The Department is a leader in the provision of well-prepared practitioners in the fields of construction and property development in the private and public sector, both locally and abroad. We are accredited with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professionals (SACPCMP) as well as by the South African Council For The Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP). We also have a strong relationship with industry and relevant professional associations such as the Associaton of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS).  Our department offers regular short courses aimed at skills development in the industry. Honours degrees

Please note:
Department of Economics plans to accept no more than 45 (total) students into its BCom (Hons) Economics and BCom (Hons) Econometrics programmes. Selection criteria listed in the EMS postgraduate regulations booklet apply; we have not set out additional requirements beyond what we have listed there.

The Department of Economics offers the following Honours degrees:

  • BComHons (Econometrics)
Students registered for the BComHons (Econometrics) degree must complete six compulsory courses. They are two microeconomics courses (Microeconomics Fundamentals and Applied Microeconomics in International Trade and Public Finance), two macroeconomic courses (Macroeconomic Fundamentals and Applied Macroeconomics in Monetary Economics and Economic Development) and two Econometrics courses (Econometrics 714 and Econometrics 724). In addition to the compulsory courses, students must also complete an essay (EKT 795).
  • BComHons (Economics)
Students registered for the BComHons (Economics) degree must complete six compulsory courses.
