University Of Kwazulu Natal Journalism, Culture and Media Studies is one of the most exciting and relevant disciplines to study at university. We engage with contemporary culture, especially as it manifests itself in the media of film, television, newspaper, radio and, most importantly, the new digital media such as the Internet and cell/ smart/ android phones. We develop the conceptual and creative skills of students to prepare them for professional positions as ‘cultural intermediaries’ in such careers as advertising, marketing, film-making, journalism, and Internet publishing. Although we encourage creative and practical work, it is important that students develop those conceptual skills that give them the ability to understand how culture and the media work, and within which creative work develops.
