UL Honours Psychology, Psychology is the science that studies behavior and mental processes. It involves the scientific investigation of how people think, feel and behave. Psychology has the rare distinction of being both an academic discipline and a profession. It is one of the few disciplines that can be applied in every context of human life.

It has relevance to those pursuing pure sciences, health sciences, the arts, commerce, law, engineering and many other fields of study. Students taking psychology have the privilege to study a wider range of topics that, among others, include learning and thinking, consciousness and perception, motivation and emotion, social behavior, personality and individuality, and stress and coping.

Students enrolled in accredited professional psychology programmes can register in the relevant registration category with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). For example, a student enrolled in the BPsych programme can, on completion of his/her studies, register with the HPCSA as a registered counselor or psychometrist.
