Paarl Boys’ High School has a proud rugby tradition. Over the years the name Boishaai has become synonymous with rugby and Paarl Boys’ High school is rightfully considered to be one of the major rugby schools in South Africa. The school has produced twenty-one Springboks, of whom Thomas du Toit is the most recent member. These legends include names such as Boy and Fanie Louw, Ryk van Schoor, Mannetjies Roux, Carel du Plessis, Corné Krige (also as captain) and Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Paarl Boys’ High School was not only recognized as the no 1 ranked rugby school in South Africa 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2017, and the first team was also unbeaten 2015 to 2017.

The rugby department has been headed by Mr Peter Engeldow since 2018. A well-known name in rugby circles, Mr Engeldow has been coaching for 24 years. While living in the UK he worked for the RFU as Rugby Development Officer and Coach Trainer before joining St Joseph’s College as Director of Rugby. Mr Engledow left England to join the Griquas, which he coached for 5 years.

Application forms are available at the general office from Ms Jurika Esterhuyse (headmaster’s assistant).
All applicants must please complete Sections A, B, C, D, E and F.
Please attach the following:
- original latest school report card
- copy of learner’s ID document or birth certificate
- certified copy of ID document(s) of parent(s)/guardian(s)
- certified copy of ID document of person responsible for the account (if third party)
- municipal account (as proof of residential address)
- written proof that applicant has been immunised against childhood diseases
- certified copies of your medical aid membership certificate (if you belong to a fund)
- Applicants requiring hostel admission should also complete Section G and submit it together with the rest of the application form. Section H should be acquired, copied and filled out as need be.
