North West University Potchefstroom,The North-West University is a newly merged University with three campuses at Potchefstroom, Mafikeng and Vanderbijlpark. The Potchefstroom Campus is the largest, and stands as the head office of the University.
With its merged status, the North-West University became one of the largest universities in South Africa with nearly 65 000 students enrolled. The Potchefstroom campus itself accommodating around 38 000 of those.
The Potchefstroom campus is located in the heart of the historical university town of Potchefstroom, 122 Km from Johannesburg and 50km from the nearby town of Klerksdorp.
The University focuses on programmes in economic sciences, commerce, information technology, education, social science, languages and the humanities. It caters mainly for the Afrikaans speaking community, but today embraces a multilingual, multicultural working and teaching environment.
Nicknamed ‘Pukke’, the University has strong ties to the Christian community, since it was previously known as the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education.
The Campus has 20 research entities, as well as many academic and research centres of excellence.
