Here are some criteria which will determine whether a child is a suitable candidate for an ASD school, the child must:

Have joint attention
Demonstrate motivation at some level for learning
Have imitation skills
Not be a danger to himself or others in his environment
Be physically able to defend themself (ie. Not vulnerable)
Be able to function in a group setting
Not interfere with the learning of peers due to extreme and unmanageable hypoactivity or hyperactivity
Have some self-help skills
Display some communicative intent
Not require one-on-one level of support for all learning
Work without being prompt dependant at some level
Not negatively impact the rest of the learners in the classroom (through verbal or physical abuse)
1. Be independent for periods of time that do not require the educator/assistants constant supervision
