Stellenbosch University Nursing, The introduction of the degree programme at Stellenbosch University (SU) dates back to June 1962. 

Today the Department of Nursing and Midwifery has strengthened their programme offering in both clinical and non-clinical programmes with an average of 650 postgraduate students and an 85% throughput and completion rate.  Postgraduate programmes include honours, masters and doctorate degrees, and postgraduate diplomas in Primary Health Care, Critical Care Nursing, Operating Room Nursing, Advance Midwifery, Advance Psychiatry, Nursing Education, and Nursing Management.  The Department has an active role in the Basic Nursing Degree offered as a shared degree on a “Common Teaching Platform” in the Western Cape with the University of the Western Cape as the enrolling university and SU an offering university.

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery is strongly aligned with the vision and mission of the University. The “Challenge of Hope” is the process of transformation into a level of excellence in nursing practice, leadership and scholarship.
