Wits Honours, Honours programmes are run across all the disciplines in the school, and in conjunction with some of the research entities.
Honours in Applied Development Economics – Was Development Theory & Policy
- This Honours comprises 6 courses – two compulsory and four electives (including at least one of two development courses and one of two econometrics courses) – as well as a research paper of 10 000 words. Admission into this programme requires a minimum average of 65% for Economics III. Course information will follow shortly.
Honours in Economics/ Economic Science
- Comprising 6 courses – four compulsory and two electives – as well as a research paper of 10 000 words, this programme requires a minimum average of 65% for Economics III. Economic Science has an additional compulsory courses in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics. It also comprises six courses and a 10 000 research paper.

Honours in Finance
- The programme comprises four courses and a research report of around 15 000 words. Core coursework components include Investment Theory, Corporate Finance Theory and Financial Risk Management, with a compulsory course in Statistical Design and Analysis which is done through the Faculty of Science.

Honours in Human Resource Management
- The programme has three compulsory courses – Advanced Labour Studies; Statistical Research Design and Analysis for the Life Sciences; and Studies in Organisational Theory. Students also need to choose one elective from Advanced Consumer Behaviour; Advanced Financial Risk Management; Brand Management; and Studies in Management, and complete a research paper.

Honours in Information Systems
- Courses include Change Management, Project Management, Information Systems Strategy & Planning, Current Issues in Information Systems and Research Methods. Students are also required to complete a Systems Development Project (group project), a Research Project, and a four-week vacation internship with leading companies in the ICT arena.

Honours in Insurance & Risk Management
- Students choose four courses from the following list: Marine, Aviation and Transport Insurance; Advanced Financial Risk Management; Advanced Specialised Insurance; Reinsurance; and Insurance Regulation; and the Basis of Liability Claims. This last is a new course, introduced in recognition of the fact that the area of liability claims has become an important and challenging area of practice worldwide In addition, students are required to complete a research report of 10 000 words.
